BLACKSBURG, Va. - Following its busy Friday, Marshall Track & Field athletes competed at the Hokie Invitational on Saturday with nine more Thundering Herd competitors placing, including graduate senior Kylee Mastin's record-breaking performance in the Women's 1K.
Mastin's time of 2:49.08 was her second school record of the weekend. The two-time reigning Sun Belt Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week broke her own 800 record Friday evening as well.
"This weekend was another great opportunity to compete against high level competition," Director of Track & Field Keith Roberts said. "Kylee Mastin and Micah Coates led the way with their school record performances. After the past two meets, we've moved up significantly in the Sun Belt rankings in numerous events and are showing strength in numbers. Our team is well-rounded as we had numerous personal bests and season's bests in sprints, jumps, distance, hurdles and throws. We're a young team so we're emphasizing the importance of process and execution. We'll get back to work at practice this week before heading to Louisville next weekend."
Against stiff ACC competition, Haleigh Crum, Isaiah Valentine, Evan Weder, Alycia Rivera and the Men's 4x400 relay team set personal-bests Saturday to follow-up the nine Herd athletes who set a top personal mark Friday evening.
