Herd S&D Has Historic Night at Duel in the Pool Against WVU on Friday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Swimming and Diving team saw several top 10 program times set as it met West Virginia for the first time in a dual meet in the history of the two programs on Friday night at The Fitch in Huntington in The Duel in the Pool.

The Herd fell by the narrow margin of 212-208 to the Mountaineers.

"This is what swimming and dual meets should be all about," Herd Swimming and Diving Head Coach Ian Walsh said. "Head-to-head, two rivals for the first time ever going punch for punch, coming down to the last relay."

MU started strong in the 400 Medley Relay. The team of Kseniia Luniushina, Maddy Akin, Lauren McNamara and Elyse Wood set the pool record and registered the second fastest time in program history at 3:39.28.

Freshman Maddison Emment a historic first collegiate meet winning the 1000 Freestyle with the fourth-fastest time in program history (10:04.24), placing second in the 500 Freestyle with the fourth-fastest time in program history (4:52.46) and winning the 200 Freestyle with the fifth-fastest time in program history (1:49.49). Emment also was a member of the 200 Freestyle Relay winning team with Luniushina, Wood and Karley Wolfgram.

Wood also won the 50 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle Skin events with Lunishina taking the 50 Backstroke Skins and 100 Backstroke.

Abby Adams entered the record book with the 10th fastest time in program history in 100 Backstroke at 55.73.

Molly Warner captured a victory in the 200 Individual Medley as McNamara won the 100 Butterfly.
