ATHENS, Ohio – The Marshall University Swimming and Diving team saw sophomore Lauren McNamara break the program 200 Butterfly record for third time in two seasons on day one of the team's tri meet against Buffalo and Ohio in Athens on Friday.
"I thought today was a really good test for us," Herd Swimming and Diving Head Coach Ian Walsh said. "Between the flags as a group we were moving fairly well. It was the lack of execution around our transitions that really took us out of some races. Despite all of those elements, we had some standout performances."
The Herd leads the Bulls 91-76 and trails the Bobcats 121-46 after the first day of competition.
"Lolo besting her school school record was a huge highlight for the session," Walsh said. "We had five additional lifetime best performances, with three other all-time Top 10 swims from Izzy, Maddy and Abby."
McNamara took first with her record-breaking time of 1:58.35, besting her previous record by nearly .4 of a second.
In the 200 Freestyle, Maddie Emment took the event with a time of 10:05.53 just off her season best set in the team's opening meet against West Virginia.
MU saw a pair of top-10 program times set in the 200 Breaststroke. Isabelle Cameron, who took third, finished tied for the seventh-fastest time in program history at 2:17:00 with Maddy Akin swimming the ninth-fastest time in program history at 2:17:71.
Finally in the 200 Backstroke, Abby Adams finished fourth with 10th fastest time in program history with a time of 2:00.64.
"If we clean our race executions, I think we'll see a lot sharper performances tomorrow morning. Really proud of our women and we have z lot of opportunities for improvement ahead for this group," Walsh commented.
