Herd Baseball Drops Game Three at Georgia Tech

Leon, Murdoch each drive home pair of RBI with a double

ATLANTA – The Marshall University Baseball team (1-6) fell 11-6 to Georgia Tech (6-1) Sunday afternoon in game three of the four-game series in Atlanta, Georgia.

"We had some opportunities on offense early that we were not able to capitalize on. The fifth inning was a turning point in the game when we left runners on base and they got a big two-out three-run homer," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said. "I liked our fight with a late inning run but it wasn't enough.  Big game tomorrow to see if we can split this tough road series.

Jackson Halter registered a pair of hits in four at bats as Ethan Murdoch and Eddie Leon each had multi-RBI efforts.

The Herd tallied in three runs in the fourth and ninth innings. In the top of the fourth, Elijah Vogelsong led off the frame with a walk as Tyler Kamerer reached on a GT error to put runners at first and second with no outs. Two batters later, Jackson Golden was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out.

Leon then smoked the first pitch of his plate appearance to left center to score Vogelsong and Kamerer. A Cam Harthan ground out saw Golden cross home for the three-run inning.

Then in the ninth a Kamerer single scored Golden followed by a Murdoch two-bagger chasing home AJ Havrilla and Kamerer.

Out of the bullpen, Peyton Jackson threw 1.1 innings giving up a run on three hits with Luke Proehl giving up an unearned run across 2.0 frames with three strikeouts.

Marshall closes out the series against Yellow Jackets on Monday at 1 p.m.
