ATLANTA – The Marshall University Baseball team (2-6) rallied with nine runs across the final three innings to take game four, 12-8 and split a series at Georgia Tech (6-2) on Monday in Atlanta.

AJ Havrilla went 3-for-4 with seven RBI on a double and a home run to close out the series. Maika Niu joined Havrilla with three hits in the contest as Cam Harthan crossed home three times.

"Really happy for our guys to end this tough road stand with a win," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said after the victory. "I love our desire and willingness to compete. AJ Havrilla had a great day at the plate. It was also good to see Nolan Wilson and Elijah Vogelsong get big hits. We strung really tough at bats together in the last four innings. We also got some key performances on the mound. Alex McKay came in and got a double play to end the second. Clint Moak came in with the bases loaded and struck out their best player. Tim Baird was really good today and I believe his performance is what flipped the momentum of the game."

The Herd saw itself down 7-3 entering the top of the seventh. Niu led off the frame with a single and stole second with one out. Havrilla then sent a 2-2 offering to left center for a double and put Niu across the plate. After a strikeout, Elijah Vogelsong stepped to the plate with two outs. The senior sent the first pitch of his at bat over the wall in right to pull MU within a run, 7-6.

With Harthan and Jackson Halter in scoring position, Havrilla stepped back to the plate with one out in the eighth. Havrilla took a pair of balls before blasting the third pitch over the left-field fence to give The Herd its first lead of the game, 9-7. After a pitching change Nolan Wilson made it back-to-back to homers on a 2-2 pitch to extend the advantage to 10-7.

The runs keep coming in the ninth as Eddie Leon hit a one-out home run to left and Havrilla followed with a two-out RBI to score Harthan with the 11th and 12th runs of the game.

Tim Baird played a crucial role out of the bullpen throwing a perfect sixth, seventh and eighth innings with five strikeouts.

Nicholas Weyrich finished the game in the ninth punching out GT batter with an unearned run coming across the plate.
