Marshall Baseball Opens Series Against Bradley with 6-2 Win

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (7-6) picked up a 6-2 win on Friday evening to start its series against the Bradley Braves (2-8) at Jack Cook Field. The victory extended the team's winning streak to six games.

"What I was really excited with was how Bryce Blevins pitched," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said after the win and Blevins' quality start. "Him giving us six strong innings to start the game, after that first inning, he was pretty much locked in. Then we were able to use our bullpen. Charlie Krebs came in and got us a really strong inning. Then Clint Moak with an inning and two-thirds to shut things down."

Bryce Blevins earned his first win of the season going 6.0 innings allowing just one run on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts as Clint Moak earned his first save with 1.2 scoreless innings with a pair of punchouts.

Cam Harthan and Jackson Halter each had multi-hit games as Halter and Eddie Leon each had a pair of RBI.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of third, Harthan registered a one-out double. Then with two outs and a 3-2 count, Jackson Halter chased Harthan to tie the game, 1-1, with another two bagger.

In the bottom of the fifth, Leon stepped to the plate to leadoff the inning. The senior sent a 1-1 offering over the left-field wall for his third homer of the season and give MU a 2-1 lead.

"We got some tough at bats offensively, a big hit out of Eddie Leon," Beals said about Leon's go-ahead home run.

The homer sparked a big sixth for The Herd. The Green and White saw Nolan Wilson bring home Ethan Murdoch as reached on an error with the bases loaded. Leon followed by drawing a bases loaded walk to score Elijah Vogelsong before Harthan scored Tyler Kamerer with a bases loaded single. Halter added another run with another bases loaded walk to score Wilson and make it 6-2.

Charlie Krebs kept the Braves off the board with a hitless seventh as induced an inning-ending double play after issuing a one-out walk.

Bradley added a run in the eighth and had a pair of runners in scoring position. However, Vogelsong made a sliding catch in left to save a pair of runs, ending Bradley's final scoring threat of the game.

"I thought the play of the game was Eli Vogelsong's catch in left field. It was a spectacular catch," Beals said about Vogelsong's catch.
