Marshall Baseball Falls to App State in Series Opener

Harthan, Vogelsong each record multi-hit games

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (17-17, 5-8 SBC) fell in its series opener, 6-0, to the App State Mountaineers (18-15, 8-5 SBC) Friday night at Jack Cook Field.
"I told the guys we didn't play bad tonight, it just wasn't The Herd's night tonight," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said. "They hit some balls in the right spot, at the right time. The ball carried for them where they hit them. We hit a lot of balls hard. I liked our process. I need our guys to commit to the process and keep competing."
Bryce Blevins hurled 7.1 innings giving up six runs, four earned on seven hits and just one walk with four strikeouts. Reliever Peyton Jackson threw a hitless 1.2 frames allowing a walk and striking out three.
On the bump for the Mountaineers, Caleb Cross threw a complete game allowing seven hits and a walk with four punchouts.
Cam Harthan picked up his eighth multi-hit game of the season with Elijah Vogelsong registering his fourth. Tyler Kamerer recorded his ninth double of the season with a two bagger in the ninth.
App State tallied three runs in the third, one in the fourth and two in the eighth.

Marshall looks to even the series on Saturday against the Mountaineers with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
