KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Marshall Track & Field had 17 place on the final day of the Tennessee Invite on Knoxville Saturday.
Among the season and personal bests were Markayla Moore who finished second in the Women's Shot Put with a throw of 13.81 meters, a mark which puts her right on the Sun Belt Conference scoring line.
Men's senior Addison Painter too would be right on the scoring line in conference after his 14.30 meter triple jump.
While not a personal-best, senior Kazuma Bowring scored in the 800. His season-best time of 1:50.51 is currently a podium spot in the event. On the women's side of the 800, Hannah Wyler finished fifth with her second top-eight finish of the weekend. Wyler is second in the conference in the 1500 and fourth in the 5K.
"We had a great overall meet at Tennessee this weekend," Director of Track & Field Keith Roberts said. "We competed against some great competition, made finals, scored in the top 3 in many events, moved up in Sun Belt rankings and East Region rankings. Our relays competed tough, showing what Marshall is all about. We had a lot of personal bests in every event group and are looking forward to getting back to training this week, working hard and fixing some technical aspects that we can execute better. The team's energy is great and you can really feel the Marshall pride when we are meets."
"Some of our student-athletes who scored top 3 were Markayla Moore, Hannah Wyler, Nyah Harrison, and Myah Boze."
"Dezire Gee and Destiny Berryman both won their events and really attacked their races. Dezire's performance in the 400 hurdles is sitting #31 in the East Region. AJ Young had a breakthrough performance in the 400 hurdles, and Lara Check and Addison Painter competed well in long jump against some top competition. Nyah Harrison ran 55 out of lane 8 in the 400, which is #4 in the Sun Belt. Our relays are really starting to click and we are excited to see what they can do the rest of the season. It's always exciting to see good things out of all event groups and we'll continue to build on this momentum the rest of the season."
