Marshall Baseball Drops 10-6 Contest To The Citadel On Saturday

Bottone’s 3-run HR leads Herd offense in loss; Service also with three hits
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Marshall's Evan Bottone connected for a 3-run home run to give Marshall a lead, but the Herd was unable to hang on to the advantage, falling to The Citadel, 1X-6, at Joe P. Riley, Jr., Ballpark on Saturday morning.Â
With the loss, the Herd falls to 2-3 on the season.
"We found a way to lose a ballgame today," Marshall Baseball coach Greg Beals said. "We simply have to play cleaner – way too many free bases between errors, wild pitches and stolen bases. Offensively, we are doing some things very well, but we need to execute better in situations."
The Herd took a 6-4 advantage in the top of the fourth inning with Evan Bottone's 3-run home run giving the Herd the lead.
However, The Citadel tied the game with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before a three spot in the seventh put the Bulldogs ahead to stay.Â
Bottone continued his hot hitting this weekend, finishing 2-for-3 with four RBIs while reaching base four times in the loss.
Oliver Service was also 3-for-4 for the Herd while Cleary Simpson also had two hits and an RBI.Â
Marshall returns to action at 11 a.m. on Sunday against Navy at South Carolina's Founders Park.
