Herd Baseball Falls at Louisville on Tuesday

Wednesday’s contest against the Cardinals moved up to 10 a.m.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Marshall University Baseball team (8-7) fell in its opening contest of the week 16-5 in seven innings at Louisville on Tuesday.

After a 1-2-3 bottom of the first from starting pitcher Peyton Jackson, the Herd struck first on the top of the second. Oliver Service was hit by a pitch with one out. Then with two outs, Cleary Simpson hit a fly ball to left that was dropped by the left fielder allowing Service to score and make it 1-0.

Jackson Golden then doubled to left to score Simpson with a single to center field by Evan Bottone scored Golden to make it 3-0.

The Cardinals then plated eight runs on a trio of homers, two by Ben Slanker and one from Kade Elam, as MU trailed 8-3 after three innings.
Â
After Simpson scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth, Tague Davis hit a three-run dinger to extend the Cardinals' lead to 11-3.

Cooper Hinson doubled home AJ Havrilla in the top of the fifth, but Louisville struck for two in the fifth and three more in the sixth to take the contest in a run-rule after seven innings.

UP NEXT
The Herd is set for another midweek game against the Cardinals on Wednesday. First pitch has been moved up to 10 am.
