LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Marshall University Baseball team (8-8) dropped an 18-8 decision in seven innings in Louisville on Wednesday afternoon.

"Obviously, we had a tough two days here in Louisville especially on the mound," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said. "They have a strong offense and with the wind blowing out we didn't handle it very well. We pitched behind on count entirely too much and we paid for it."

Evan Bottone, Cam Harthan, AJ Havrilla, Jack Smith and Wil Gubba all had multi-hit efforts for the Herd. All five also tallied an RBI with Harthan registering two on a pair of singles.

Marshall tallied a run in the first, second and fifth innings with the run in the fifth coming on Bottone's team-leading fifth homer of the season. The visitors also tallied three runs in the sixth and a pair in the seventh.

Tim Baird hurled a scoreless bottom of the fifth out of the bullpen.

"Our preseason has ended and we start conference play Friday. At 8-8 we need to take the lessons of these first 16 games and learn from the good and the bad. It is time to freshen up and begin a new season - sunbelt season," Beals said.

The Cardinals scored one run in the first, seven in the second, four in the third, five in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Louisville's offense was led by Tague Davis, who had three hits including a pair of home runs, with eight RBI as he leads the NCAA with 39 this season.
