HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (11-8, 3-0 SBC) completed a sweep of the Georgia State Panthers on Sunday at Jack Cook Field, 13-7, by overcoming a six-run deficit and scoring 13 unanswered runs.

The sweep marked the Herd's first conference-opening series sweep since 1995, when it swept Furman.

"It's great to open up conference play this way and be 3-0," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said. "I'm really proud of our guys and how they competed today. We got big hits when we needed to. Kamerer, Bottone, Smith, Harthan (had big hits). Landen Doll I think is the real story. Settling the game down putting zeros up in the middle of the game."

After coming on in relief of starter Kenyon Collins, Landen Doll issued just two hits while striking out seven in 4.0 innings to earn his second win of the season out of the bullpen.

At the plate, Jackson Golden, Evan Bottone and Tyler Kamerer all had multi-hit efforts with Bottone and Kamerer each homering. Bottone led the way with four RBI as Jack Smith recorded his second straight three-RBI contest.

The Panthers rattled off the first six runs of the game with five in the second and one in the third.

However, in the bottom of the third, Jackson Golden led off with a double and was moved over to third on a Bottone groundout. After taking a ball for the first pitch of his at bat, Kamerer smoked his second homer of the season to left to cut the deficit to 6-2.

Then in the fourth, Oliver Service and Cleary Simpson led off the frame with a pair of walks. A one-out single to left by Golden loaded the bases and brought Bottone to the plate. After watching a ball, the center fielder launched the second pitch over the right-center fence to tie the game with a grand slam, 6-6, on his team-leading sixth long ball of the season.

MU tallied another five runs in the seventh on a Cooper Hinson RBI single, a Simpson bases-loaded walk and a bases-clearing three-RBI double from Smith to grab an 11-6 lead.

Two more runs crossed in the eighth with AJ Havrilla drawing a one-out walk and scoring on a Cam Harthan triple with Service then bringing in Harthan on a sacrifice fly to cap off 13 unanswered runs.
