HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (13-13, 5-4 SBC) suffered a heartbreaker in a 10-inning loss, 5-4, in its series finale against the No. 15 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (20-7, 9-0 SBC) Sunday afternoon at Jack Cook Field.

"Tough loss," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said. "I liked the fight in our ballclub. We got a big from Jackson Halter there in the ninth. We gave some really tough at bats. We were in position again in the 10th to do some damage. We were right in the top of the order, right where you want to be. Unfortunately, we hit into a double play ball to end the ballgame."

Jackson Halter hit his fifth homer of the season and drove home two RBI as Evan Bottone had a three-hit, two-RBI game.

Heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Herd trailed 4-2. Bottone led off the frame with a single to center. After a flyout, Halter stepped to the plate. On a 0-1 pitch, the right fielder launched a game-tying homer to right tie the contest 4-4.

The Chanticleers regained the lead, 5-4, in the top of the 10th with a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the inning, Marshall had runners at first and second with one out, but ended the game on a double play.

MU's other two runs came on Bottone RBI singles in the second and fourth.
