Marshall Baseball Drops Final Contest at South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. – The Marshall University Baseball team (18-20, 9-9 SBC) fell 4-1 in the series finale on the road Sunday to South Alabama (24-16, 10-8 SBC) in Mobile, Alabama.

Jackson Halter hit his sixth homer of the season to go with a multi-hit game as Tyler Kamerer and Cooper Hinson also picked up a pair of hits in the contest.

Starting pitcher Kenyon Collins allowed an unearned run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
Â
The Jaguars got on the board first in the bottom of the third, but Collins stranded the bases loaded to end the frame with fly out to right.
Â
In the top of the fifth, Jackson Golden led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After a Jack Smith sacrifice bunt, Golden stood at third with Evan Bottone at the plate. On an 0-1 pitch, Bottone singled to center and tie the game 1-1.

South Alabama tallied three two-out runs in the bottom of the eighth and held MU scoreless in the top of the ninth to take the series.
