Marshall Baseball Drops Final Contest Of App State Series

Kamerer’s two hits leads Herd effort in 10-4 loss on Saturday

BOONE, N.C. – Marshall Baseball dropped the final contest of its three-game series with App State in a 10-4 loss on Saturday at Smith Stadium in Boone, N.C.

With the loss, Marshall falls to 14-16 on the season and 6-6 in Sun Belt Conference action.

The Herd opened the scoring in the contest in the first inning as A.J. Havrilla singled home Tyler Kamerer to give the Herd the early advantage.

After App State took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the second inning, Marshall cut the advantage to 4-3 with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth as Kamerer brought home Jackson Golden with an RBI single.

Jackson Halter then hit into a 4-6-3 double-play, but Evan Bottone crossed the plate to cut the lead to one.

From there, though, Marshall was unable to get closer as the Mountaineers answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to regain a four-run lead and tacked on additional insurance in the seventh and eighth innings.

The Herd ended the scoring when Halter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth, but a strikeout ended the game and the series.

Marshall returns to action at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday when the Herd travels to Morgantown to take on West Virginia. The Herd then will return home on Friday evening at 6 p.m. to start an SBC series with Old Dominion at Jack Cook Field.
