Track & Field Opens Spring with 2019 Marshall Women’s Classic

HUNTINGTON, W. Va.- The Marshall University track and field team returns to action this Saturday (Jan. 12) in its second ever Marshall Women's Classic. The event, which begins at noon at the Jeff Small Track within the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex, is the second home meet of the season for Marshall.
***Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for ages 17 and under, and $2 for groups of 10 or more people. With a student ID, Marshall students can gain free admission.
Aside from Marshall, six other teams from five different conferences are set to compete in the event. The six teams are: Ohio, James Madison, Duquesne, Cleveland State, Morehead State, and Wright State.
Marshall is looking to follow up a big season-opening win, in which they scored 118 team points, besting second place Ohio by 54 points.
In last season's Women's Classic, the Thundering Herd tied with Duquesne for a team high 160 points, with as many as four events being won individually by Marshall athletes.
"We're excited to get started this semester. It's a good chance to see how hard our athletes trained over winter break," head coach Jeff Small said. "Everyone can come out and get a quick dose of Marshall's track and field team. The meet lasts for just a couple hours, and that's more fan friendly than some of the two-day meets."
