Baseball Defeats Binghamton in 15 Innings

Herd win on a wild pitch in extras

Box Score | Play-By-Play

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Herd baseball (5-5) takes game two from Binghamton (1-6), 4-3, in a marathon 15-inning game Saturday at Kennedy Center Field.

Game three of the series was scheduled to be played today as part of a double-header, but was cancelled and will not be made up.

Marshall scored the first run of the ballgame on a two-out double by Jaren Lovely to bring home Zach Inskeep in the top of the second. However, the Bearcats would rally in the top of the third and record a two-out double of their own to tie the game 1-1.

Raul Cabrera would put the Herd back on top, 2-1, with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth by scoring Elvis Peralta.

Binghamton would then benefit from a Marshall error in top half of the sixth inning to tie the game at 2-2.

Herd starter Zac McNeel was pulled after six innings of work. McNeel gave up two runs, one earned, on six hits and struck out six Bearcat batters.

Hunter Sexton came on in relief and went 2.2 innings giving up no runs on two walks, a hit and left the game with six strikeouts.

Sexton was pulled in the ninth inning with one and the bases filled with Bearcats. Michael Guererro came in and set down the next two batters to keep the score tied at 2-2.

With runners at second and third with two outs, Luke Edwards was at the plate for the Herd. Edwards struck out to end the inning as the game went to extra innings.

After nothing going for either squad in the 10th or 11th innings, Binghamton took a 3-2 lead after Philip Hoffman walked a batter with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of 12.

In the bottom of the 12th, Lovely collected a one-out single and then stole second with two outs in the inning. Peralta drew a walk as did Tucker Linder to load the bases with the Herd down to its last batter brought Cabrera to the plate. Cabrera drew a walk, much like the Bearcats in the previous half inning, to tie the ballgame 3-3.

With the game remaining 3-3 going to the bottom of the 15th, Linder lead off with a double and Cabrera followed it up with a single sending to Linder to third. After Cabrera took second on a defensive indifference, Linder scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

Ryan Falls got the win for the Herd, his first of the season, after pitching the 15th inning.
