Marshall Track and Field Competing in South Carolina

ROCK HILL, S.C.- Marshall's track and field program, including its distance runners, are in South Carolina gearing up to compete in Winthrop University's Adidas Winthrop Invitational. The competition spans three days (Thursday through Saturday) and will be held at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Complex in Rock Hill.

The Thundering Herd will look to add more names to the Conference USA and national rankings, following the Yellow Jacket Invitational last weekend—a competition that saw Macie Majoy break an outdoor pole vault school record, Christianna Dogan finish third in the 400-meter hurdles and Reneese Batson and Hasana Clark finish second and third in weight throw, respectively.

Marshall will be up against over 1200 athletes from 36 other schools. Two teams of note include Virginia Tech, which was ranked nineteenth in the NCAA's Division I Indoor rankings, and Ashland—ranked eighth in the NCAA's Division II indoor rankings.

Sarah Bever and Torie Derrow are up first for Marshall, as they will be competing in the heptathlon 100-meter hurdles at 2 p.m. today. The heptathlon picks up again at 9 a.m. tomorrow, followed by field events like hammer throw, long jump and shot put.
