GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Later this week, Marshall's track and field team will be at the University of Florida for the Pepsi Florida Relays. The competition, which begins Friday for the Herd's student-athletes, is the team's fourth of the outdoor season. It will be held at the Percy Beard Track within the James G. Pressley Stadium. Viewers will be able to catch the competition via a live stream on WatchESPN (linked at right).

Events will be packed with elite talent from around the east coast, including nationally-ranked programs Florida State, Miami (Fla.), Kentucky and Alabama. Considering that nearly 100 colleges are set to compete, there figures to be a fair share of Olympians in attendance.

A couple of matchups to keep an eye on:
  • In the 100-meter, Kayla Haywood will be up against three athletes with top-ten times in the nation: Florida State's Ka'Tia Seymour (third-fastest time), Kentucky's Abby Steiner (fifth-fastest) and Miami's Alfreda Steele (sixth-fastest). Steele and Steiner are also a part of 4x100 relay teams with times in the top-ten nationally.
  • Sarah Bever, Safiyyah Mitchell and Taylor Robinson, all competing in the 100-meter hurdles, will face four athletes with top-ten times: Cortney Jones of Florida State, Ebony Williams of Clemson, Shamaria Lovett of Alabama State and Tiara McMinn of Miami (Fla.)
  • In high jump, Bever and Torie Derrow will compete against FIU's Clarissa Cutliff and Kentucky's Carly Hinkle. Cutliff and Hinkle have the first and third-highest marks, respectively.
  • The 4x100 Relay team of Elysee, Haywood, Mitchell and Wilkerson, which currently has a time within the top 100 nationally, will face stiff competition from the relay teams of Miami (Fla.), Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Clemson.

Reneese Batson will be the first athlete to compete for the Herd. She takes her spot in discus at 11:30 a.m. on Friday morning. Six other events also take place on Friday.
