CHARLESTON, S.C. – Freshman Emma Vanderheyden was named the singles champion at the College of Charleston Halloween Invitational as the Marshall University women's tennis team closed out the event on Sunday.

"It was an excellent day today. I'm really excited for Emma, who won all of her singles and double matches at the number one position and was named the singles champion of the tournament," Marshall women's tennis head coach John Mercer said. "Everyone had good weekends and the progress is exciting. We look forward to our match against UVA in January."

Vanderheyden dropped just one set all weekend as she was named the singles champion of the tournament. She took her singles match over Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg of Samford in straight sets, 6-4,6-0, and combined with Liz Stefancic to take down the College of Charleston's Slade Coetzee/Halli Trinkle, 7-5, on Sunday.

Stefancic also won her singles contest on Sunday, 6-4, 6-2, over Samford's Alexis Lopez.

Rieke Gillar won a three-set battle against Samford's Lindsay Song by a final of 7-6, 2-6, 6-3.
