Herd Baseball Readies for Contest at WVU

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (4-19, 0-12 C-USA) travels to Morgantown to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers (12-14, 4-5 Big 12) on Wednesday at Monongalia County Ballpark.

The Herd won its matchup earlier in the season against the Mountaineers on Mar. 23, 7-1. Starting pitcher Ryan Capuano was credited with the win going 3.1 hitless innings and giving up just three walks.

Relievers Nick Jodway, Heiner, Ayden Hodges, Nick Adkins and D'Andre Knight combined to give up just two hits in the final 5.2 innings.

Catcher Kyle Schaefer brought home three RBI on a home run. Shortstop Geordon Blanton led off the game with a solo home run.

Centerfielder Luke Edwards, designated hitter Cole Williams and third baseman Peter Hutzal all had two-efforts in the contest.

The Mountaineers have a record of 12-14 season. This past weekend WVU fell in two out three games in Waco, Texas, against the Baylor Bears, salvaging the series with a win on Sunday.

Mikey Kluska is tied with Vince Ippoliti for the team lead with a .324 batting average. Kluska leads the Mountaineers with 19 RBI.

Matt McCormick and Kevin Brophy have each blasted a team-high six home runs this season. McCormick's 11 extra-base also leads the team.
