Zaglifa Breaks School Record on Day One of Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Marshall track and field wrapped up the first day of competition at the Charlotte Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.
Lauren Zaglifa became the first Marshall athlete to clear 13 feet in the pole vault in school history. Her new personal record set a new school record in the outdoor pole vault with a top clearance of 3.97 meters (13 feet, 0.25 inches). She finished fourth in the event.
Torie Derrow won the javelin in her first crack at the event this season. Her top throw came at 36.69m (120 ft. 4 in.). Chloe Cahill followed her in second (32.10m/105 ft. 4 in.).
Abby Herring had a strong performance in the 5000m. She finished seventh with a time of 17:15.56, which is the second-fastest personal record in school history, only behind HollyAnn Swann's 2018 school record time of 17:11.64.
Tori Dotson and Astoria Beckett earned invites to the 800m invite. Dotson finished second with a time of 2:13.70, and Astoria Beckett finished fifth (2:14.45). Beckett's time is a new personal best and is the fifth-best personal record in school history.
All three throwers in the hammer, Brooke Burns, Josie Moore and Katie Hill, earned new personal bests in the event. Leading the way was Burns in fourth (50.14m/164 ft. 6 in.) and Moore in sixth (47.51m/155 ft. 10 in.).
Due to expected inclement weather, the schedule of events for Saturday has been altered. A full list of Marshall athletes set to compete Saturday, as well as full results from Friday, is listed below.
