Marshall Track and Field to Open 2022-23 Season With Home Opener

Morehead State to visit Huntington for Marshall Opener

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—Marshall track and field will open the historic 2022-23 season with the Marshall Opener Friday at the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Indoor Complex.
The dual meet with Morehead State is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. for the field events, and 7:30 p.m. for the track events. Only the women will compete Friday, with the men set to officially return for the Marshall Classic in January 2023.
Head Coach Jeff Small is excited for the team to finally compete after months of preparation.
"We're excited to get underway and see where our kids are at," Small said. "It's a great opportunity to see our sprinters and throwers and jumpers in action, they work really hard from Labor Day forward to get to this point. I'm really excited to see what Mikah Alleyne can do in the 300, maybe get a school record and to see what our throwers can do with how much they've improved. This is a great meet to keep the athletes motivated throughout the fall, and it's a great benchmark for when they get back in January."Â
The Herd have historically had great success in the Marshall Opener, winning last season's edition over Ohio. Overall, Marshall is 161-21 against Division I competition at the home track, a trend Coach Small hopes to continue.
"We've had a pretty good winning percentage at home," Coach Small added. "We're looking forward to hopefully another victory on Friday, and to be able to pad those stats this indoor season."
The facility opens at 5:30 p.m. Friday, admission is free. The schedule of events and live results can be found on Marshall track and field's schedule page.
