Baseball Heads to First Weekend of Snowbird Classic

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall baseball opens the 2022 season during the first weekend of the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida, this weekend. It will take on Ohio State on Friday, BYU in a doubleheader on Saturday and finish with Indiana State on Sunday.

Marshall returns Luke Edwards, who led the team with a .331 batting average, 16 doubles, 47 hits and a .556 slugging percentage.

Ryan Leitch returns for his sophomore campaign after launching a team-high 10 homers and brought in a team-best 29 RBI.

Geordon Blanton led Marshall with 12 stolen bases during the 2021 season.

On the mound, MU returns Raymond Pacella, who struck out 69 hitters in 60 innings pitched last season.

The Green and White welcomes 17 newcomers to the 2022 squad.

Scouting Ohio State
The Buckeyes return seven positional starters and 21 letterwinners from its 2021 squad, which finished 22-20 last season.

Kade Kern earned Freshman All-America honors last year after batting .325 and making just one error in centerfield.

Scouting BYU
BYU went 23-27 in 2021. The Cougars welcome back Andrew Pintar. Pintar was a Collegiate Baseball News Freshman All-American and was WCC Co-Freshman of the Year.

In addition to Pintar, BYU returns Mitch McIntyre, Cole Gambill, Reid McLaughlin and Carter, all were all-WCC honorees last season.

Scouting Indiana State
The Sycamores made the 2021 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament last season after finishing with a 31-21 record. They picked up a win in the regional over Presbyterian.

They return two of their top batters from 2021 in Jordan Schaeffer and Aaron Beck, who were all-MVC preseason honorees.
