Herd Baseball Set for SBC Series Against App State

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (8-6) welcomes the App State Mountaineers (8-7) for its inaugural Sun Belt Conference series beginning Friday at 7 p.m. at GoMart Ballpark in Charleston, West Virginia.

Luke Edwards has a team-high 18 hits and is tied with Kyle Schaefer with a team-best five doubles and 11 RBI. Edwards has 47 two baggers in his career and two away from breaking Victor Gomez's program mark of 48. Edwards has also scored a team-best 14 runs this season. The Myrtle Beach. South Carolina, native recorded his 200th career hit on Wednesday against Ohio State.

Chris Noble, Gabriel Cabrera, Edwards and Schaefer have all hit two homers this season.

Drew Harlow threw 1.2 scoreless innings against Ohio State on Wednesday. Harlow has not given up a run in his 17 innings pitched this season allowing just five hits and one walk while striking out 22. He has .33 WHIP this season, second best in the country.

Friday's projected starter Patrick Copen has 27 strikeouts this season, ninth most in the conference.

Scouting App State
The Mountaineers enter the series on a six-game losing streak after falling to West Virginia in pair of contests this week.

Hayden Cross leads his side at the plate in batting average (.407), hits (24), runs scored (19), RBI (19) and doubles (eight).

Friday's projected starter Xander Hamilton has a 2-1 record with 26 strikeouts in 21.1 innings on the hill.
