Herd Baseball Hosts Canisius for Three-Game Series

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (6-4) is set to host the Canisius Golden Griffins (2-6) for a three-game series at the Kennedy Center beginning on Friday.

Kyle Schaefer has been consistent to start the season. Schaefer leads the Herd with a .375 batting average, 14 hits and four doubles as he is on a 10-game hitting streak to start the season. He's tied with Gabriel Cabrera and Chris Noble with two homers after launching a grand slam in a win on Tuesday over Radford.

Cabrera is tied with Schaefer for the team-lead in RBI with 10.

The Herd is fourth in the Sun Belt with a 1.44 WHIP.

Drew Harlow has been a workhorse out of the bullpen. He's thrown 10.2 scoreless innings to go with 15 punch outs as he's given up just four hits and one walk. His .47 WHIP ranks third nationally and Harlow is one of just 11 eligible pitchers to not give up an earned run this season.

Starting pitcher Patrick Copen is second in the conference at 15.43 strikeouts per nine innings. Copen leads MU with 20 strikeouts this season.

Christian Lucio has stolen five bases this season to lead MU and rank 10th in the SBC.

Scouting Canisius
The Griffs enter the weekend on a four-game losing streak after falling to WVU, 8-1, on Tuesday.

Kyle Kush leads his side with a .360 batting average, nine hits and five runs scored through eight contests. Josh Niles has six RBI on seven hits.

Matt Duffy has a team-high 13 strikeouts in 10.2 innings with a 1.69 ERA in a pair of starts this season.
