Herd Track and Field Teams Have Strong Showing at Marshall Alumni Classic

Marshall men and women pick up 13 individual victories
HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Thundering Herd track and field program welcomed home alumni while picking up 13 individual victories in Saturday's Marshall Alumni Classic
Two standout performances included Abby Herring setting the school's indoor 3K record with a 9:28.68. Herring broke her own record set last season by nearly 19 full seconds (9:47.40). Ethan Bowens set a new men's 300 record with a 35.10.
Of the 13 individual wins, the Herd had multiple individual winners from Mikah Alleyne, Rebecca Merritt, Kennedy Pedro, Marlee Porter, and Tyra Thomas.
"Today was a great start to the new year," Coach Keith Roberts said. "We had several strong performances that were highlighted by two school records as well as two meet records. We'll be on the road next week so it was nice to get in front of our home crowd today. It was also our alumni meet and we really appreciate those who came out and showed support. It was an honor to meet some of the people that laid the foundation for such a great program."

The 2024 track and field season is in full swing. The Herd will take split squads next weekend to both the VMI Invitational and the Indiana Invitational. Both events will be two-day meets starting on Friday, Jan. 19.
