Blevins, McKay produce strong bullpen innings in 5-0 loss

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Marshall Baseball received a strong effort from its bullpen on Saturday, but could not muster the run support needed in falling 5-0 to the College of Charleston at The Ballpark at Patriots Point.

With the loss, Marshall falls to 0-2 on the young season.

"Overall, we played better baseball today," Marshall Baseball coach Greg Beals said. "We didn't get a quality start today from (Cole) Agemy – he was simply up in the zone with his stuff. We need to be more offensive in the batter's box so that we can produce runs. On the positive side, (Bryce) Blevins and (Alex) McKay gave us 5.1 shutout innings to give the team a shot to come back and the defense was really good behind them."

Blevins, a sophomore left-hander from Louisa, Kentucky, came in during the third inning and pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball to keep the Herd in it after the Cougars had jumped to an early lead on Agemy.

McKay entered in the seventh inning and did not allow a hit in two frames of work.

Outfielder Calin Smith finished 2-for-3 at the plate, collected two of the Herd's four hits in the contest.

The two teams return to The Ballpark at Patriots Point at 2 p.m. on Sunday for the third game of the four-game set.

Carter Lyles is scheduled to get the start on the mound for the Herd.
