HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (0-4) dropped the series finale, 8-5, to the College of Charleston Cougars (4-0).
Â
"It wasn't the weekend we were looking for from a win-loss standpoint," Herd baseball head coach Greg Beals said after the series finale. "We learned a lot. It's really important for playing winning baseball that we play cleaner. We had too many free bases. We have to play cleaner defense and take care of the baseball better."
Â
Gio Ferraro and Caden Kaiser each had big days at the plate. Kaiser went 3-for-5 at the dish with a trio of singles as Ferraro collected a base knock and a double in five at-bats with both driving in a pair of runs.
Â
The duo combined to tie the game, 5-5, in top of the sixth with a one-out, two-run single to center by Kaiser and a two-out one, bagger to left by Ferraro.
Â
The top four batters in The Herd lineup, Ferraro and Kaiser along with Tre Hondras and Owen Ayers, combined for seven of the team's 10 hits.
Â
The Cougars answered with a run in each of the bottom half of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to close out the ballgame.
