HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (11-19, 5-7 Sun Belt) fell in the series finale to the Texas State Bobcats (15-15, 4-6 Sun Belt), 7-4, on Sunday afternoon at Jack Cook Field.

"It's a tough loss today," Herd Baseball head coach Greg Beals said after the contest. "We had an opportunity to sweep the series. Going into the top of the seventh we took the lead, went up 3-1. We were in a good spot there and then we helped them out. We played clean all weekend until last three innings."

Owen Ayers, who went 2-for-5 at the plate, registered his 10th multi-hit game this year and extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single fifth. Cam Harthan moved his on-base streak to 17 contests with a base knock in the sixth.

On the bump, Carter Lyles went 5.0 innings giving up just one run on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

The Bobcats used three-run innings in the seventh and ninth to take the contest.

Caden Kaiser led off the bottom of the first with his seventh double of the season before scoring on a Texas State error later in the inning.

Harthan's single in the sixth combined with a Bobcat error brought home Tre Hondras. Harthan crossed home later in the inning on an AJ Havrilla single.

The Herd's final run came in the seventh after Ayers recorded his team-high 13th double of the season and later scored on a wild pitch.
