Herd Baseball Takes Down Ohio in Non-Conference Finale

ATHENS, Ohio – Caden Kaiser drives in eight runs with a pair of homers, including a grand slam, as the Marshall University Baseball team (18-34) picked up a 13-11 win in Athens, Ohio, over the Ohio Bobcats (16-30) Tuesday night.

"They were huge. The grand slam being the biggest one of them all," Herd Baseball head coach Greg Beals said about the team's three homers in the contest. "Our offense is trending. We had a good day Sunday. We followed up with today. We need to take that into the weekend."

Kaiser's career day at the plate came with a grand slam in the seventh, a three-run blast in the third and a sacrifice fly in the first.

"I strung some good at bats together, got a good pitch to hit and put a good swing on it," Kaiser said about his grand slam.

Kaiser wasn't the only one to swing a hot bat as Cam Harthan registered his sixth three-game hit of the season with Calin Smith recorded his second game of the season with three or more hits, including a solo homer in the ninth.

Starting pitcher Chad Heiner earned his second win of the season hurling 4.0 innings giving up just two runs on two hits and a pair of walks with four strikeouts. Out of the bullpen, Nicholas Weyrich earned his fifth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

MU's other two runs came in the seventh on as Owen Ayers drew a bases loaded walk and Gio Ferraro was hit by a pitch after the free pass, all before Kaiser's grand slam. Ayers scored a career-high four runs as Ferraro had a pair of hits for his 10th multi-hit contest of the year.

Peyton Schofield threw a perfect 1.1 innings recorded the final out of the fifth and all three outs in the sixth.
