PRE-GAME NOTES
The winner of Saturday's contest between Marshall and Georgia Southern will become bowl eligible. It is one of three matchups in FBS to feature win-and-in teams. There are currently 72 bowl-eligible teams for 82 slots with 20 teams at five wins this week.
Marshall holds a 3-1 advantage in games played in Huntington and Georgia Southern has never defeated the Herd at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. The only Georgia Southern win in Huntington came at the old Fairfield Stadium in 1990.
Marshall quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson broke the Herd's 47-year record for single-season rushing yards by a quarterback last week. Del Rio-Wilson now has 659 rushing yards, topping Danny Wright's mark of 652 in 1978.
Del Rio-Wilson also has 575 rushing yards in conference play, which is No. 4 among all players. He is averaging 82 yards per game on the ground in SBC action.
Marshall kicker Lorcan Quinn is tied for the single-season record in field goals with 19, which matches Tim Openlander (1995), David Merrick (1993) and Dewey Klein (1988). With a converted field goal on Saturday, Quinn would become the first Marshall kicker to ever hit 20 field goals in a season. He is also tied for the SBC lead in scoring at 94 points.
Herd punter Nathan Totten is averaging 45.2 yards per punt with 17 of his 53 punts going for 50-plus yards this season and 17 being downed inside the 20-yard line.
Marshall cornerback Boogie Trotter is tied for the SBC lead and is tied for No. 2 in FBS in interceptions with five this season. His two INT returns for touchdowns are tied for the national lead, as well.
Georgia Southern is looking for their second straight win in the series and their first-ever at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. Last season, the Eagles rallied from a 23-3 fourth-quarter deficit to stun the Herd 24-23 in Statesboro. It was the Herd's lone SBC loss in 2024.
Marshall comes into the game ranked No. 18 in FBS in rushing offense at 209.1 yards per game on the ground. That will be a factor as they face a Georgia Southern defense ranked last in FBS (136th of 136) in rushing defense. The Eagles are allowing teams to rush for 234.9 yards per game.
