Herd falls in midweek game to Colonels

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Marshall University Baseball team (11-10) dropped its midweek contest on Tuesday night, 6-2, to the Eastern Kentucky Colonels (3-17) in Richmond, Kentucky.
 
"We were flat and not ready to play tonight," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said after the loss. "That is on all of us and totally unacceptable. We have two days of work to sharpen up and be ready for a home conference series starting Friday."
 
In the top of the sixth, Ethan Murdoch smashed his team-leading sixth homer of the season.
 
The Herd's second run of the contest came on a Maika Niu single to score Will Lafferty. Niu reached base three times in the contest by also drawing a pair of walks.
 
Out of the bullpen, Peyton Jackson, A.J. McAninch, Kenyon Collins, Alex McKay and Nicholas Weyrich all threw scoreless innings in the ballgame.
 
UP NEXT
Marshall returns to Jack Cook Field for a three-game series against the James Madison Dukes. The team's home-opening Sun Belt Conference series is set to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday.
