TROY, Ala. – The Marshall University Baseball team (13-15, 3-6 SBC) used a comeback to take the series finale over the No. 17 Troy Trojans (21-8, 6-3 SBC), 6-5, in 11 innings on Sunday in Troy, Alabama.

"Hard fought victory against a good ball club," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said after win. "We pitched really well today and all weekend. (Clint) Moak got us into the middle of the game – (Blaine) Albright, (Charlie) Krebs and (Tim) Baird were tough. Most importantly we went right back to (Nicholas) Weyrich, and he responded extremely well. Big hit again from (Ethan) Murdoch with the home run and a clutch game winner from (Jackson) Halter. We must gain confidence and build off this weekend."

Maika Niu registered his 11th multi-hit effort of the season with Jackson Halter registering his ninth. Ethan Murdoch hit his team-leading eighth homer of the season.

Nicholas Weyrich earned his third win of the season hurling the final 2.0 innings allowing just a hit and striking out three. Weyrich combined with Blaine Albright, Charlie Krebs and Tim Baird as the bullpen combined to allow just an unearned run on three hits and a walk across the final 6.2 innings. All four relievers had at least two strikeouts.

Clint Moak started on the bump allowing four runs on five hits and no walks with four punchouts across 4.1 frames.

Trailing 4-0 to start the top of the eighth, Halter and Tyler Kamerer each drew a walk to lead off the frame. Niu then smoked the first pitch of his at bat through the left side, scoring Halter to get The Herd on the board and move Kamerer to second. AJ Havrilla followed with a run scoring single to center put Niu at third and bring home Kamerer for his 23rd RBI of the season.

After a Trojan strikeout, Murdoch stepped to the dish. Troy pitcher Jay Dill made a mistake to the Canadian designated hitter as Murdoch sent a 1-2 pitch over the wall in left center for a three-run blast to give MU a 5-4 lead. The RBI tied Havrilla for the team lead at 23.

Troy tied the game, 5-5, with a run scoring on a two-out error as the teams headed to ninth. Baird returned to the hill in the bottom of the ninth for his second inning of work. The righty got in a bases loaded jam with two outs but got of the frame with a foul out to go to extra innings.

Then with two outs, runners at first and second and down 0-2 in the count, Halter singled through the left side to score Will Lafferty for what would be the game winning run.
