HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (19-22) run ruled the Morehead State Eagles (12-26) 10-0 in seven innings on Tuesday night at Jack Cook Field.
"We needed that. We needed a feel-good game coming off a tough weekend," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said after the win. "We met as a team yesterday and talked about how we respond, how we bounce back coming out with a fresh attitude and mindset, and our guys did that."
The Marshall pitching staff combined for a three-hit shutout over MSU. Peyton Jackson earned his first win of the season hurling 3.0 scoreless frames allowing just a hit and a walk with a strikeout. Fenix DiGiacomo followed with 3.0 innings of one-hit baseball with a punchout as A.J. McAninch closed out seventh allowing just a hit and a walk.
At the plate, Cam Harthan drove in a career-high five RBI with a single and a triple stole his sixth base of the season. Jackson Halter, AJ Havrilla and Tyler Kamerer also had multi-hit efforts in the victory.
After a scoreless first, Harthan brought home Ethan Murdoch and Elijah Vogelsong with a one-out single to make it 2-0 MU. Maika Niu then brought home Halter and Jackson Golden with a two-out double as Havrilla plated Niu with a double down the left-field line for a five-run inning.
In the third, a Harthan triple saw Vogelsong and Kamerer cross home with a Halter two-out two bagger tallying Harthan to make it 8-0.
Then in the fourth, a Kamerer RBI ground out Havrilla as Harthan reached on a fielder's choice to score Eddie Leon to extend the advantage to 10-0.
The win marked the second shutout of the season for The Herd along with the team's second run-rule victory in 2025.
