Herd Baseball Takes Slugfest at Morehead State, 32-15

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Marshall University Baseball team (20-22) took an offensive slugfest over Morehead State Eagles (12-27), 32-15, on Wednesday night in Morehead, Kentucky.
Â
The Herd saw an offensive outburst with 32 runs on 33 hits. MU saw 11 student-athletes register multiple hits in the win as 10 drove in multiple runs.
Â
Elijah Vogelsong led the way with four hits in five at bats, scoring six runs, five RBI and drawing three walks as he fell a homer shy of the cycle. Cam Harthan and Nolan Wilson also had four hits each with Harthan bringing home five RBI and Wilson tallying three, including a pair on a two-run home run.

Tyler Kamerer, AJ Havrilla and Ethan Murdoch each recorded three hits as Havrilla and Murdoch each multi-RBI games.

Jack Smith, Joel Gardner and Eddie Leon finished the contest with two hits and two RBI each against the Eagles with Jackson Golden and Will Lafferty each finishing with a pair of hits.

Cooper Hinson drove in three with a triple in the ninth.
Â
Marshall scored runs in all except for two innings with three or more runs six of the other seven frames, including six in the first and 10 in the ninth.
Â
Blaine Albright picked up his first win of the season with four strikeouts against five of his batter faced in a perfect 1.2 innings.
Â
In the final three innings, Charlie Krebs, Tim Baird and Brandon Brunette combined for 3.0 scoreless innings with Baird and Burnette retiring the side in order.

Marshall returns to Jack Cook Field for a three-game series against South Alabama beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday.
