KENNESAW, Ga. – The Marshall University Baseball team (2-0) split a doubleheader in Kennesaw, Georgia, winning an 18-11 slugfest over the Evansville Aces in game one and falling 10-9 to the Kennesaw State Owls in game two.

Jackson Halter had a day at the plate going 5-for-9 with seven RBI and six runs to go with hitting for the cycle, the team's first since March 19, 2019, by Shane Hanon against Eastern Michigan.

Tyler Kamerer also had a three-double game against the Aces.

"Long day at the ballpark today for The Herd," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said. "We swung the bats extremely well. Obviously, you can see the power numbers, but we also gave tough at-bats all day long, which can be seen in our reduction is strikeouts. Unfortunately, we only got five innings out of our two starting pitchers, but we had great middle relief work in both games from Albright and Doll. We had our chances to complete the sweep, but were unable to get it done. We played a lot of baseball and learned a lot about our team today. We look forward to getting back into competition."

Game 1 – Marshall 18, Evansville 11
The Herd jumped on Evansville early with a five-run first inning, capped by a two-run home run from Oliver Service. Tyler Kamerer and Evan Bottone set the table at the top of the order, while Ethan Murdoch and Service delivered key extra-base hits in the opening frame with a Murdoch RBI double and Service's homer. By the end of the second, the Herd had put six runs on the board with a Bottone RBI single.

Jackson Halter was the story of game one, putting together a historic day by hitting for the cycle. Halter finished 4-for-6 with a single, double, triple, and home run, marking one of baseball's rarest feats. He also scored four runs and drove in three, igniting a relentless Marshall attack that scored in seven of nine innings. The eighth-inning single by Halter sealed the cycle.

Kamerer continued the offensive onslaught by going 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs, and two RBI, while Bottone matched him with three hits, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Service drove in three, including his first home run of the year, and Cooper Hinson chipped in two RBI.

On the mound, Blaine Albright secured his first win of the season with 3.2 innings of steady relief, allowing just one run on one hit and striking out three. The Herd capitalized on Evansville's mistakes, scoring multiple times on wild pitches and taking advantage of three errors from the Purple Aces.

Game 2 – Kennesaw State 10, Marshall 9
Marshall built an early 2-0 lead with Kamerer and Hinson each driving in runs, but Kennesaw State answered with three in the bottom of the first and stretched its lead to 4-2 after two. Hinson fired back with a towering three-run home run in the third, part of his four-RBI outing, to reclaim the lead for the Herd.

Landen Doll came on in relief to start the third. After giving up a two-out run in the frame, the freshman reliever retired 10 straight and finished his outing with six strikeouts.

Halter delivered again with a three-run homer in the fourth to make it 8-5, but the Owls clawed back to tie the game in the seventh, 8-8. Bottone gave MU back the lead 9-8 with a solo home run in the eighth, finishing the game reaching base four times and scoring three runs.

Kennesaw State rallied in the ninth with a pair of runs and a walk-off on a wild pitch.
