14 top-10 finishes for Herd

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Marshall track and field wrapped up its first meet of the season, the Blazer Invitational, Friday at the Birmingham Crossplex.

The day was highlighted by junior MaryAnn Adebayo's win in the weight throw with a top throw of 17.83 meters (58 feet, 6 inches). Adebayo, who finished top-five in the event six times last season, won the event by over eight feet.

Finishing second in the event was freshman Rebecca Merritt (15.54m/51 ft.) making her collegiate debut. Sophomore Brooke Burns finished sixth in the event (14.33m/47 ft. 0.25 in.).

In the other field events, senior Lauren Zaglifa finished third in the pole vault with a top clearance of 3.45m (11 ft. 3.75 in.). Junior Macie Majoy finished with the same top clearance in third.

Rounding out the field events included Adebayo's sixth place finish in the shot put (12.62m/41 ft. 5 in.) and Merritt in 10th (11.24m/36 ft. 10.50 in.).

Junior Mariah Harmon, making her Thundering Herd debut, qualified for the finals of the 60 meter hurdles. She finished sixth in the event with a time of 9.27.

Sophomore Abby Herring finished fourth in the 1000m with a time of 3:03.84, which was less than one second off her personal record and just over one second from the fifth-fastest personal record in school history (Andrea Porter in 2016, 3:02.16).

Making her collegiate track debut, freshman Tori Dotson finished sixth in the 600m with a time of 1:38.81.

The 4x800m relay team of Herring, Dotson, Kalei Jordan and Madelyn Garrison finished third with a time of 9:59.66.

UP NEXT
The Herd is scheduled to return home to host meets at the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Athletic Complex for three consecutive Saturdays beginning January 30 with the Thundering Herd Invitational. The meet will be a one-day quad meet against Murray State, Ohio and a fourth opponent to be determined.
