First meeting between the two programs since 1973 NCAA Tournament
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (3-4) heads to Carbondale, Ill., to take on the No. 27 Southern Illinois Salukis (14-1) in a three-game series from Mar. 19-21.

Game one on Friday is set for a 4 p.m. EST/ 3 p.m. CST start, while Saturday's first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. EST/3:30 p.m. CST and Sunday's series finale is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EST/Noon CST.

MU fell 3-1 in the first game on Friday, Mar. 12, but won on Saturday, Mar. 13, 11-10, and Sunday, Mar. 14, 19-9, to take the series.

Freshman catcher Ryan Leitch hit three home runs in 11 at bats during the series driving in five RBI.

Sophomore catcher Kyle Schaefer went 4-for-8 on Saturday and Sunday with a pair of long balls and four RBI.

Third baseman Peter Hutzal hit a dinger and had four RBI in the three-game set as first baseman Zach Inskeep and centerfielder Luke Edwards each had a homer and three RBI.

Nick Adkins and John Cheatwood each picked up their first wins of the season as D'Andre Knight earned his second save on Saturday.

Leitch has a team-leading five home runs and nine RBI in the Herd's first seven games of the season.
Scouting SIU
The Salukis are ranked No. 27 in this week's Collegiate Baseball poll and are 14-1 on the season. SIU is also receiving votes on the USA Today Coaches Poll and the NCBWA poll.

It was undefeated until Mar. 14 when it fell to Evansville in the fourth game of its first Missouri Valley Conference Series of the season. The loss ended a 19-game win streak for the Salukis.

J.T. Weber was the National and MVC Player of the Week for his performance against Evansville. Weber reached base in 14 of his 17 plate appearances. He has a team-high seven homers and is third in RBI with 17.

Philip Archer has a team-best 19 RBI and two dingers behind Weber with five, third most on SIU.

SIU ranks in the top 10 nationally in batting average (.335), slugging percentage (.589), hits (176) and runs scored (138).
