Late Eagles Rally Downs Herd Baseball At Morehead State

Rubber match set for Sunday at 1 p.m. in Huntington
MOREHEAD, Ky. – Marshall baseball (1-1) fell, 13-10, to the Morehead State Eagles (3-6) Saturday afternoon at Allen Field.
The Herd led 7-3 at the seventh inning stretch, but the Eagles scored 10 runs in the seventh and eighth innings, including a seven-run seventh, to take the win.
Neither starting pitcher took a decision in the contest. Marshall junior John Cheatwood made his second career start in a Thundering Herd uniform, throwing 3.2 innings (6 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K). Junior Nick Jodway (0-1) suffered the loss for Marshall on the mound (0.1 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K).
The Marshall bats came alive, scoring 10 runs across six of the nine innings. Of the 13 hits for Marshall, 10 were extra-base hits (four 2B, two 3B, four HR). Marshall's four home runs were the most in a game since March 10, 2019 vs. Eastern Michigan (four).
Marshall was led offensively by six hitters who each had two hits. Freshman Ryan Leitch (2-for-5) had two home runs, driving in four RBI. He is the first Thundering Herd hitter to have two homers in a game since Rey Pastrana on April 18, 2018 at Ohio.
Junior Geordon Blanton (2-for-5) continued his hot start to the season with 2 RBI and a double. He is hitting .625 in the early season.
Redshirt junior Peter Hutzal (2-for-5, 2 R, RBI) homered and tripled. Sophomore Luke Edwards (2-for-4, R) also had a triple and hit a double as well.
Senior Zach Inskeep homered as part of a 2-for-3 day with two walks and four runs scored, becoming the first Herd batter score four runs since Blanton did on March 16, 2019 against FIU.
Junior Jordon Billups went 2-for-5 at the plate with a double.

The Thundering Herd look to win the series Sunday afternoon at the Kennedy Center Field. The Herd and Eagles complete the three-game series with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
