HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall baseball fell, 6-2, to visiting Morehead State Sunday afternoon at the Kennedy Center Field.

The Herd drops to 1-2 while the Eagles improve to 4-6.

Morehead State rallied in the seventh inning once again. One day after the Eagles scored seven runs in the seventh inning to take a decisive lead, MSU scored five runs Sunday in the frame.

Freshman Patrick Copen (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound in his first career appearance. He retired the Eagles in order in the sixth inning before walking three in the seventh and being charged with three earned runs. The Herd pitching staff issued only one walk across the other eight innings pitched.

Cory Conway (2-0) earned the win in relief for Morehead State.

Freshman Zac Addkison had a superb start for Marshall in his collegiate debut. He went 5.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out six as opposed to walking one batter.

Marshall got the scoring going in the bottom of the third with a double from Luke Edwards which hit off the top of the right field wall, scoring Jordon Billups.

After a solo home run tied the game in the top of the fourth, Marshall retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth with Geordon Blanton's RBI single to left field. His fourth RBI of the season scored freshman Devin Ward, who made his first collegiate start Sunday at designated hitter.

Freshman Ryan Leitch continued his hot start to the season at the plate, going 3-for-4. He is hitting .462 (6-for-13) after the team's opening three games.

Sophomore Luke Edwards also went 3-for-4, adding an RBI on his double. Sophomore Travis Sankovich went 2-for-4. Junior Geordon Blanton stole his third base of the season.

After recording the final out of the seventh, redshirt junior Trey Alderman pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning. Freshman Cody Sharp pitched a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.
