Edwards extends his on-base streak to 34 games

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (12-12-1) fell to the West Virginia Mountaineers (14-8), 7-3, Tuesday afternoon at the Kennedy Center.

Herd starting pitcher Ryan Capuano began his outing with a 1-2-3 top of the first.
Â
The Mountaineers were first on the board with five runs in the second inning, including home runs by Mikey Kluska and Austin Davis.
Â
With a single in the third, Luke Edwards reached base for the 34th straight game dating back to the 2021 season.
Â
WVU added an insurance run in each of the fourth and fifth frames, with a homer by Victor Scott II in the fifth, to go up 7-0.

Jordon Billups got Marshall on the board with a solo shot to left center in the bottom of the seventh. Travis Sankovich added a pair of runs on a single up the middle the next inning to cut the deficit to 7-3, but the home side was unable to complete the comeback in the ninth.

Marshall relievers Louis Davenport, Sam Thompson, Nicholas Weyrich and Cole Agemy combined to give up just one hit and no runs in the final four innings of the contest.

WVU starting pitcher Zach Bravo went six scoreless while giving up three hits.
