HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (5-6) picked up a weekend sweep over the FDU Knights (0-10) with a 5-4 win on Sunday afternoon at Jack Cook Field.
Â
"It's great to get a sweep at home," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said after Sunday's win. "Offensively, I thought we hit some balls hard early. We didn't get much production from those quality at bats, but there late in the game we got some big at bats when we needed to. Eddie Leon's double was huge. To see Murdoch score from first base to see his speed play out was fun to watch. Then Tyler Kamerer with the sacrifice fly, which was the go ahead run, with a huge two-strike at bat there (in the eighth)."
Â
Eddie Leon brought home a season-high three RBI as AJ Havrilla and Tyler Kamerer picked up their fourth and second multi-hit contests of the season. Ethan Murdoch reached base in all four of his plate appearances with a double and three walks.
Â
Tim Baird earned his second win of the season throwing 2.0 innings allowing a run on three walks and a hit with Nicholas Weyrich earning his third save of 2025 with a scoreless ninth.
Â
The Herd struck early with a Havrilla RBI single scoring Jackson Halter in the first and a Leon RBI groundout chasing home Kamerer in the second to make it 2-0 MU through two.
Â
The Knights answered with a run in each of the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings to take a 4-2 lead over The Herd after the top of the seventh.
Â
In the bottom of the seventh, Leon stepped in the box with two outs as Kamerer and Murdoch stood at second and first, respectively. The senior roped a double down the left-field line to score both runners and tie the ballgame 4-4.
Â
Marshall loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth with a Halter double, Havrilla single and a walk to Elijah Vogelsong to bring Kamerer to the dish. Kamerer put the Green and White back on top, 5-4, with a sacrifice fly to center to score Halter.
Â
Weyrich loaded the bases allowing a pair of hits and a walk, but registered a punchout and a lineout to close out the game and seal the sweep.
Â
Clint Moak threw a scoreless 1.1 frames by striking out three of the five FDU hitters he faced. Starting pitcher Fenix DiGiacomo registered four strikeouts across 4.2 innings of work.
