HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (16-16, 5-7 SBC) picked up a big series win on Saturday splitting a doubleheader against No. 13 Southern Miss (22-10, 8-4 SBC), falling in game one, 4-3, and taking game two with a shutout, 6-0, to give USM its first series loss of the season.

Freshman Clint Moak hurled a shutout in game two of double dip allowing seven hits and just two walks with four strikeouts on 112 pitches.

"It was a really good day of baseball all the way around," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said after the win. "We came up one run short in the first game, but our boys really responded and wanted game three. They wanted that rubber match. They came out and played a great game of baseball. 13 hits, six runs, no errors and obviously the big story is Clint Moak goes and puts nine zeros up on the board."

Game 1 – No. 13 Southern Miss 4, Marshall 3
Griffin Miller started game one on the bump. The sophomore went 5.0 innings giving up just three runs, two earned, on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts.

Second baseman Tyler Kamerer went 3-for-4 at the dish with a double and a run scored as Jackson Halter also scored a run with a multi-hit effort.

The Golden Eagles opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the second, but MU answered Kamerer scoring on a Nolan Wilson groundout to cut the deficit to 2-1.

USM added a run in the third, but an AJ Havrilla sacrifice fly scored Eddie Leon and a Maika Niu sacrifice fly chased Halter to tie the contest, 3-3 through three innings.

Southern Miss scored the game-winning run on Braeden Luke two-out RBI double. Josh Och allowed just one hit as he struck out seven of his 14 batters faced in 4.2 scoreless innings.

Game 2 – Marshall 6, No. 13 Southern Miss 0
Moak stranded six USM runners on the bags as he induced three double plays in his complete-game shutout.

"Started off, maybe, a little slow, but we got the bats going and it gave me a lot of confidence on the mound. It was fun. All I gotta say is it was fun," Moak said about his outing.

Halter and Kamerer each registered another multi-hit game on the day this with Halter collecting a trio of singles a season high. Niu picked up his 12th multi-hit game of the season with his fifth multi-RBI contest of the campaign.

Ethan Murdoch finished with a season-high three hits as Wilson registered his third multi-RBI game of the season.

Wilson got the scoring started with a two-RBI double scoring Kamerer and Murdoch in the third. After advancing on a passed ball, Cam Harthan brought him home with a ground out to make it.

The next inning Kamerer brought home Niu to extend the lead to 4-0 after four with a single through the right side.

On his third homer of the season, Niu sent a 1-0 offering over the left center wall to bring home Halter and add a pair of runs to make a 6-0 ballgame and seal the series.
