Wednesday, March 4: Marshall at Virginia Tech, 4 p.m.
Projected Starters: TBA vs TBA
History Against Virginia Tech
Wednesday will be the 38th all-time meeting between Marshall and Virginia Tech, and the first of two games between the schools in 2020. The Hokies lead the all-time series 28-9 and have won four straight in the series.
Marshall's last win was a 3-1 victory on April 5, 2017 in Charleston. The last Marshall win in Blacksburg was April 23, 2005 when the Thundering Herd won 12-4.
Unconventional Tie
In the 110 years of Marshall baseball, Sunday the program had a game end in just the 13th tie in school history. With the 2-2 tie against Canisius, it was Marshall's first stalemate since April 6, 2008 when Marshall tied with then-Conference USA opponent Tulane, 5-5, in New Orleans.
Hot Bats Entering Wednesday
Senior Zach Inskeep set career-high marks in game one Sunday in at-bats (7), hits (4) and runs scored (2). He also recorded his first double of the season and enters Wednesday with the second-highest batting average on the team this season (.324).
Junior Geordon Blanton enters the mid-week contest with the team-lead in batting average (.325) walks (6), and co-lead in RBI with Luke Edwards in RBI (6). He went 3-for-4 in the series finale against Canisius.
His middle-infield partner Edwards meanwhile matched career-highs in at-bats (6), hits (3) and doubles in one game (2) in the 13-inning contest against Canisius.
Sharp Cheddar
A bright spot in the Thundering Herd bullpen has been freshman and Spring Valley High School product Cody Sharp.
This past Sunday, he provided 4.1 innings in relief this past Sunday in the second game against Canisius. He allowed two hits and struck out six Golden Griffins in a scoreless outing. That came after his break out game one week prior against Bowling Green, when he went 3.1 innings of two-hit, four-strikeout, scoreless baseball against Bowling Green on February 23.
