Career: Joined the Thundering Herd for the 2011 season after pitching for two years at Broward JC...served a role as the team[apos]s closer, amassing five saves (four of those coming in 2012) for which he ranks tied for ninth on Marshall[apos]s all-time saves list.
2012: Appeared in 21 games, going 1-1 with a 2.96 ERA...struck out 24 hitters in 24.1 innings (8.88 K/9)...allowed only 15 hits in his work as Marshall[apos]s closing pitcher...gave up only three earned runs over his last 20 appearances...recorded saves in back-to-back appearances against Gardner-Webb (3/9, 3/11) before claimed two more saves in conference action (at UAB on 3/23 and home against Southern Miss on 4/28).
2011: Appeared in 22.0 innings of relief...struck out 21 while walking 16...held opponents to .244 at the plate and gave up only four extra-base hits...went 2-3 with one save in 23 appearances... gave up 13 earned runs (5.32 ERA).
Prior to Marshall: Pitched two seasons at Broward JC...totaled 30 innings on the mound...accumulated a 3.50 ERA and tallied a 1-1 record on the hill.
High School: Played at Christopher Columbus HS.
Personal: Born Jan. 24, 1990...son of Bobby and Vivian Fernandez...has one brother, Bobby...majoring in business administration.
