His 27 career starts -- every game in 2014 and '15 -- lead all active 2016 Herd players ... Is only 2016 returnee among eight 2015 All-Conference USA first or second team picks for the Herd ... Recognized by Herd coaching staff for his smarts and toughness and his willingness to play through injury to stay on the field.

JUNIOR SEASON (2015): One of five Marshall picks to All-Conference USA second team ... Earned Herd's Offensive Gridiron gladiator award, which is presented to player who "gives Herd everything he has, all the time" ... Led all Herd linemen with 1,007 snaps played and 55 knockdowns ... Recognized for his on- and off-field leadership and was one of four players -- and the lone junior -- elected as a 2015 season captain by teammates ... Named to the 2015 Rimington Trophy Watch List.

SOPHOMORE SEASON (2014): Started all 14 games, although hobbled on-and-off by high right ankle sprain ... Played 787 snaps, with 51 knockdowns ... Late season injuries limited him to 15 (UAB), 2 (Western Kentucky) and 11 snaps (Louisiana Tech), but returned to play all 80 in Herd's Boca Raton Bowl win over Northern Illinois.

FRESHMAN SEASON (2013): Voted to Conference USA All-Freshman Team by league coaches ... Played 13 games as backup at guard, primarily as No. 2 behind then-senior Alex Schooler ... Was one of only seven true freshmen to play in 2013, became a reliable performer on the offensive front ... Played 222 snaps, with 99 percent assignment rate and 84 percent success.

PRIOR TO MARSHALL: Born Oct. 5, 1994 ... Majoring in Sports Management at MU ... Was first NLI to arrive in the Shewey Building on February 2013 signing day, at 7:30 a.m. ... Committed to Marshall previous June, and took the Herd offer over ones from Mississippi State, Middle Tennessee and Georgia State. Georgia Tech also made a late offer in the days just before National Signing Day, but Selby stuck with the Herd ... Also had interest from Kentucky and Georgia ... Selby's blocking helped Washington County High rush for more than 3,000 yards and pass for more than 2,000 in 2012. His team went 12-1 with a Class 3A playoff appearance ... Had 96 pancake blocks and 72 finishes and graded at 89 percent ... Was 3.8 student at WCHS ... Hails from Sandersville, Ga. (pop. 5,837), which Selby says has "only five or six traffic lights." ... Gives credit for his quick adaptation to major college football to his high school coach, Joel Ingram, who played center at Jacksonville State, and former Georgia lineman Seth Watts, who preceded Selby at Washington County.
